The Tennessean
“For years we had been driving by. What’s in there? What’s in the pink building?” said Rhiannon Guillet and Emily Harper, who eventually rented the curiously narrow pink building on 10th Ave. S. to create Magpie etc. The pair, both artists, created a collective creative space, part gallery, part studio, that showcases their work and that of local creatives, everything from paintings to a booksigning for a self-published author. When I visited, several artists and passers-by stopped by to browse, say hello, or introduce themselves, while Guillet, Harper, and a friend worked. “A lot of times artists rely on that crutch, not knowing how to step it up and market and sell themselves,” said Harper. “If you’re an artist, you’re going to (create) no matter what. But if you’re going to put it out there…” Harper said. “you’re just going to have to put it out there.,” finished Guillet with a laugh.
