By: Ron Wynn

Prolific Nashville author Chuck Beard, who just penned his first novel, is using both his writing and advocacy skills on behalf of raising money for cancer research.

Beard, whose work has appeared in such area publications as Nashville Arts and Number Inc., will sign copies of his first novel Adventures Inside a Bright-Eyed Sky (Oneder Wonder Press) Saturday at magpie, etc., a gallery of sorts.

The founder of Adventures Inside a Campus for a Cure, Beard explains the unique concept as one in which its participants seek to not only raise funds but more importantly bring the battle against cancer to the forefront of youth. Using art, music and entertainment, it aims to educate about the effects of cancer.

All proceeds from the book sales will go toward the organization.

The book covers the exploits of a wide-eyed young boy named Jay, who lives within the world crafted in the novel.

“Jay is a young boy who is having trouble finding the reasons why his childhood seems to be departing just as soon as he is getting to the heart of it all,” Beard said. “In the search for the truth behind everyday mysteries Jay discovers just how adversity, friendship, and death all happen for a reason and, in the end, Jay discovers himself.”

The book signing will also include both live musical performances and artwork from local and regional artists.

magpie, etc., a gallery of sorts, was founded by 12 South residents Rhiannon Guillet, a designer, and Emily Harper, an artist, and features a variety of unique and handcrafted items.
